Bird Control Company to Unwrap A Newly Commissioned Chopper Built by Orange County Choppers Paul Teutul Sr. on June 16, 2011

Tinton Falls, NJ (May 25, 2011) – Feather Free Zone – a regional leader in bird exclusion, control and deterrence – announced today it will unveil its custom-built motorcycle on June 16, 2011, 4:00pm at Jenkinson’s Pavilion Restaurant and Bar in Point Pleasant, NJ. The event will culminate with the bike’s formal introduction by its designer and builder, Paul Teutul Sr. of Orange County Choppers. The celebration will be filmed for a future episode of the popular television show, American Chopper, which airs on the Discovery Channel.

Feather Free Zone commissioned the building of a custom chopper to support its marketing and charitable endeavors. The bike, with a design inspired by the company’s dark, soaring logo, will appear at children’s charity events to draw attendance and raise awareness for these worthy causes.

“The success we’ve had with our other custom-chopper, Boomer-1, made this undertaking a no-brainer,” said Bob Young, co-founder of Feather Free Zone.

His co-founder, Brett Madden added, “Now with two amazing showcase bikes, we can more strongly advance our company philosophy of supporting the communities we serve.”

The black and chrome chopper, with red highlights and integrated LED lights, will be ridden into the June 16th gathering by its builder, Paul Teutul Sr., founder of Orange County Choppers.

Bike enthusiasts and fans of the show, “American Chopper,” along with supporters of Feather Free Zone, can see the debut of the chopper by Paul Teutul Sr. at the popular Jenkinson’s Pavilion Restaurant and Bar at 300 Ocean Avenue, Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742.

Paul Teutul Sr. named as customer in steroids case

Orange County Choppers founder Paul Teutul Sr. has been named among a handful of luminaries identified as customers in an East Coast steroids case.

Business records quoted in the Albany Times Union indicate Teutul Sr. got steroids from James M. D’Amico, a dentist from Cape Coral, Fla., who had a revoked dental license when he was prescribing powerful drugs to patients he’d never met, including pro athletes. D’Amico pleaded guilty to some charges in the case.

The case, prosecuted in South Florida, has ties to a steroids-distribution investigation launched four years ago in Albany, the newspaper reported.

The records indicate Teutul, 61, received dozens of prescriptions for steroids and human growth hormone authorized by D’Amico and three other Florida physicians over a four-year period ending in 2005.

A person who identified himself as Teutul at a cellular telephone number listed for him in the business records referred the call to Steve Moreau, a manager at OCC.

“Honestly, really, I couldn’t do this even if it was about chewing bubble gum,” Teutul told the newspaper in response to questions about steroids and D’Amico. “Everything has procedure. Call the shop.”

Business records show Teutul received 73 prescriptions at a cost of $51,784.78 between Aug. 2, 2002 and Oct. 3, 2006. D’Amico’s name is listed on 11 prescriptions that records indicate were shipped to Teutul in New York. The prescriptions included human growth hormone and steroids such as testosterone, nandrolone and stanozolol, the records show.

Orange County Choppers HQ faces foreclosure

Times Herald-Record

The lender that financed Orange County Choppers new headquarters in the Town of Newburgh has filed a foreclosure action against the builder of custom motorcycles, alleging that it missed its July mortgage payments.

Orange County Choppers has two mortgages through GE Commercial Finance Business Property Corp., one for $11 million and one for $1.5 million.

The foreclosure action claims that the Choppers missed mortgage payments of approximately $96,400 and $14,000 due on July 1.

The Choppers stopped making mortgage payments in order to put pressure on the lender to modify the terms of the loans, according to Choppers lawyer Richard Mahon. Mahon said that when the headquarters was built in 2007, it was valued at about $12 million. Because of the economic downturn, the building is now worth between $7 million and $8 million, he estimated.

This is just a bump in the road, Mahon said. We believe the parties will reach a resolution and the headquarters will continue in this location.

GE Commercial Finance spokesman John Oliver declined to answer questions about the suit, citing confidentiality.

We worked very hard to try to come up with a better outcome, but in the end we had to make a business decision based on our agreement, and we did, he said.

The Orange County Industrial Development Agency is also named as a defendant in the action, since it technically owns the property under a payment-in-lieu-of taxes arrangement with Orange County Choppers.

IDA chairman James Petro said he did not know the specifics of the suit.

You just hate to see anything not go smoothly, he said. Theyve been a staple of the community for 10 years, and I hope they can work through their problem.

The IDA is not liable for the back mortgage payments because a clause in the lease-back arrangement indemnifies it against default by the Choppers, said IDA attorney Philip Crotty.

The IDA has a long history of working with the Choppers, in addition to the package of tax breaks that helped the Choppers build the headquarters. In July, the IDA board approved a 10-year PILOT for Choppers Roadhouse, a restaurant to be located next to Choppers headquarters. The board also considered hiring Paul Teutul Sr.s company to custom-build a motorcycle for the agency on his cable TV show at a cost of $75,000 to $85,000. The board viewed the project as a marketing tool, but abandoned the plan amid criticism over the idea of using taxpayer money for the project.

Now that the foreclosure filing has occurred, Mahon expects that talks will restart. He said its unlikely the lender would want to seize the property because it was built for a specific use, and the tax breaks now enjoyed wouldnt carry over.

He also said that it would be wrong to assume that Paul Teutul Sr. is broke because of his companys failure to pay.

Orange County Choppers and Paul have substantial assets, he said.

American Chopper — a solid rebuild

Television has a long and not very proud history of revamping canceled shows. Such short-lived series as “After MASH” and “Golden Palace” suggest that it’s usually better to let dead dogs lie.

TLC canceled its reality series “American Chopper” in February after six seasons, then announced in April that the series would be returning under the new title “American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior.”

The revamped show is more appealing than one might expect, with a new dynamic that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Viewers who enjoyed the previous version’s combination of mechanical skills and family dysfunction should be satisfied.

The season premiere, airing this Thursday, Aug. 12, at 9 p.m., brings us up to speed: Paul Teutul Sr., who runs a custom motorcycle shop in upstate New York called Orange County Choppers (OCC), has fired his son Paul Jr., who has turned around and sued him over the 20 percent of the shop he owns.

Paul Sr. claims that his son was spoiled, disrespectful and lazy. The younger Paul claims that his father was impossible to please and that his 20 percent is worth more than nothing, which is what his father is offering him.

The current season, three episodes of which were made available for review, focuses on the family’s legal and personal squabbles, on OCC’s business of creating and building cool bikes and on Paul Jr.’s attempts to start his own custom motorcycle company, Paul Jr. Designs.
