The Ford Mustang and customization go together like peanut butter and jelly, so it’s not surprising that the marque is previewing four pimped Mustangs for the upcoming Specialty Equipment Market Association show. The four models are, as expected, based on model year 2012 Mustangs, and all four feature some serious visual and mechanical revisions.
For starters, Forgiato Wheels took a Mustang GT and added three-piece black wheels, 21 inches up front and 22 inches out back. It also fit a TS Designs and 3dCarbon body kit, and a matte gray paint job. Underhood, Forgiato also manages to bolt on a Vortech supercharger.
Creations n’ Chrome also fit a Vortech supercharger to pump up the Mustang’s power, and covered it with a Autosport Dynamics carbon fiber hood. The paintjob is bright red, with black side stripes. The wheels are 18-inch forged affairs, and the car has a full chromoly roll cage installed within the confines of its “race-inspired” interior.
MRT Performance would prefer that you refer to its Mustang as the TKO. It fit its Mustang with a two-tone black and orange paintjob, a ProCharger supercharger, along with an HRT MaxFlow stainless steel exhaust system. It sits atop an H&R coilover suspension and gets the finishing touches in the form of Sparco racing seats.
Not surprisingly, H&R Springs gave its Mustang project some serious suspension upgrades. The gets a full H&R Springs Coil RSS sport suspension, front and rear sway bars, and Pirelli P Zero tires all around. It gets some flash in the form of a Street Scene Equipment body kit and a special blue paint job by Tri-Star Enterprise, and some dash in the form of an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger and Flowmaster exhaust.
All four will be on display alongside a smattering of Focuses, Fiestas, and Explorers at the SEMA Show early next month.

Scion is showing off a slew of concept cars at this year’s SEMA show, ranging from wildly flamboyant snowboarding vehicles to race paddock-traversing runabouts. Check out everything the youth-oriented brand is bringing to SEMA below.
Pit Boss Cartel iQ by Cartel
The Pit Boss, having been transformed into a convertible of sorts, sports a Cartel Signature Series chop top and equally chopped and capped doors. Moving to the back,
Snap-on tool boxes and tools have been molded into the rear bumper for a real pit crew feel. For the interior, black carbon fiber and Orion Gray seats adorn the cabin, accompanied by a tire rack and roll cage. Mechanically, the rear factory suspension points have been re-engineered. Not only is this iQ a rolling pit-stop support vehicle, it’s also a wifi hot-spot.
Gruppe S tC by Dynamic
This souped up tC looks up to the task for any track event, with a Seibon carbon-fiber hood, front carbon-fiber splitter, and an APR GT wing that sits atop a Seibon carbon-fiber trunk lid. For suspension, KW has provided a three-way adjustable race coilover setup, with TRD’s very own big brake kit and custom RS4 front and rear race pads courtesy of Porterfield. The engine has been fitted with a GReddy turbo kit, front-mount intercooloer, and BC camshaft and valve springs. But the Gruppe S isn’t quite ready for the track without an equally race-ready interior: Recaro SPG Hans seats, Sparco race harnesses, and a custom-built six-point race cage round out the mods.
Numeric xB by 686 and Scion Racing in Collaboration with Spin Imaging
A Scion made for the slopes, Numeric is designed with snowboarding in mind, with gizmos and gadgets that are sure to make any snowboarder’s dream come true – if they can live with the outrageous color scheme. For starters, the roof is designed to look like a Bern carbon-fiber helmet, complete with its signature brim. The windshield is patterned after Dragon APX frameless goggles, and Sparco-modified seats resemble Union snowboard binding high-backs. Dry gear door compartments decorate the inside, as do custom hangers and a boot rack. A snowboard tuning tool compartment and custom avalanche shovel are also included. Topping off this shred-tastic ride is a Skullcandy sound system, and colorful waterproof wrap that’s designed to look like snowboard clothes.
Scion iQ-RS by Michael Chang
Evasive Motorsports helped dress up this concept’s exterior with custom fender flares, a vented hood, GT wing, carbon-fiber front lip and splitter, rear diffuser, and side splitter. The engine bay receives a custom transmission cooler with a custom carbon-fiber cover, while Air Runner provides the suspension. Inside, Sparco EVO seats, steering wheel, pedals, and racing harness add some flair, as does an 11-inch touch screen and carbon trim on the dash.
Scion iQ RX by Jon Sibal
This matte metallic gray iQ is strapped with a Nitrous nozzle system with 2.5-pound bottles. The body, which has front bumpers, fenders, a vented hood, and side skirts from Veilside’s Premier catalog all sit atop an Air Runner system with front bellowed struts. Red calipers by Stop Tech help offset the metallic gray paint, and match the red stitching on black seats in the interior. MVDesignz also added a custom Apple iPad2 enclosure, but the coolest part? An Xbox360 game console with Forza 4, courtesy of Turn 10 Studio.
Scion iQ-MR by Tatsu
The interior of the iQ-MR is stuffed with Sparco goodies, with seats, steering wheel, window net, and seat belts. Specialty Cars crafted the rollcage, and the concept sits atop a KW Variant 3 suspension. The “MR” in the name stands for mid-engine rear-wheel drive – meaning this concept likely isn’t stock, to say the least. G1 Design made the graphics that appear on the exterior. Other goodies include a Burns stainless exhaust pipe, and Wildwood pedal box.
Scion xB Project Anarchy by SR Auto Group
Last but not least is the xB that won the 2011 Scion Canadian Tuner Challenge. This champion wears a Seibon carbon-fiber hood, trunk, and spoiler. Front lip, side skirts, and rear lip were provided by AIT Racing. The front bumper also has LED foglights, and under the hood, Decadent fit the engine with a turbo system. TRD added an exhaust system, strut bar, sway bars in the front and rear, as well as abig brake kit. In the cabin, a carbon fiber shift knob, blue LED lights in the footwell, and Reventon-inspired leather seat bolsters complete the look.

DIAMOND BAR, California — Such storied auto show venues as the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show are suffering from no-shows by several automakers, but the 2009 SEMA Show is shaping up to be the one to watch in the fall. SEMA organizers on Thursday issued a statement saying that Ford will be the featured vehicle manufacturer and that several “first ever” programs are in the works.
What was unsaid in the official announcement is that the 2009 SEMA show appears to be alive and well and poised to provide some much-needed high-powered entertainment as the U.S. begins its slow crawl out of recession.
Ford did not reveal what it has planned for SEMA. But John Felice, Ford and Lincoln Mercury marketing general manager, said the automaker will “showcase the flexibility of our vehicles for personalization and accessorization.”
Christopher J. Kersting, SEMA’s president and CEO, said it will be “making some exciting announcements in the coming weeks about ‘first ever’ programs at the 2009 show. These programs will further demonstrate how the SEMA show represents one of the many year-round activities that help us all do better business.”
The 2009 SEMA show will run November 3-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (May 5, 2009) – Classic Corvettes. Vintage pickups. Tricked-out Hondas. These are just a few of the “rides” expected to cruise into the Inaugural SEMA CARES Car Show taking place inside the newly remodeled Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California, on Saturday, August 1, 2009. In all, more than 200 vehicles representing every facet of the car culture – from hot rods and musclecars to exotics and sport compacts – will come together to help children in need.
“We hope this enthusiast Car Show will become the showcase event of the summer and grow each year so that we can raise more money for two deserving children’s charities,” said Mike Spagnola, chairman of the SEMA Cruisin Old Town car show, and president of Street Scene Equipment based in Costa Mesa, California. While SEMA is a trade association and the world-famous SEMA Show is a trade event that is not open to the general public, the SEMA CARES Car Show is a unique event that is open to all enthusiasts.
“Our emphasis is to support Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp,” Spagnola said, explaining that proceeds from the Car Show will benefit the two groups. Founded in 1959, Childhelp provides services to abused and neglected children, while the Victory Junction Gang Camp provides life-changing camping experiences to disabled and chronically ill children.
“We’re asking all enthusiasts and the public to join us in our efforts,” continued Spagnola. “It will be a great event with an amazing collection of cars and trucks that really exemplify everything SEMA is about – design, passion and performance.”
Trophies will be awarded for Best Engine, Best Interior, Best in Show and People’s Choice. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will have an opportunity to attend the trade-only SEMA Show in November, with free hotel accommodations in Las Vegas.
For many in attendance, it will be an opportunity to enjoy the recently renovated state-of-the-art Pasadena Convention Center. Organizers say that the Car Show, located within walking distance of Old Town Pasadena and dozens of popular shops and restaurants, will be a great option for Southern California residents looking for something fun to do.
The day will also include the 2nd Annual SEMA CARES Pinewood Drag Races which last year helped raise more than $40,000 for these two children’s charities. Presented by eBay Motors, the pinewood race will feature more than 250 cars in three classes (stock, modified and unlimited). Participants will be able to sponsor a child’s car, thereby serving as team owner and racing it under the child’s name.
Cost to enter a vehicle into the Car Show is $75 per vehicle, and cost to attend is $5 for adults, with kids 10 and under free. Registration fees for the pinewood races range from $125 to $200, depending on the vehicle class. Money raised from all activities benefit Childhelp and the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Vehicle applications are available online at www.sema.org/carshow; tickets to attend the Car Show will be available at the door on the day of the event. Registration for the Pinewood Drag Races is available at www.sema.org/derby.
Both the Car Show and the Pinewood Derby are part of the SEMA Leadership Days, which includes the association’s Annual Installation Banquet & Gala Fundraiser held that evening. The event pays tribute to the 2009 Hall of Fame inductees and honors newly elected and outgoing members of the SEMA Board of Directors. Complete details about the gala are available at www.sema.org/gala.
